Jason Update

Hey Be A Champers!

I'm glad Jerry (dad) finally learned about blogs. As I was cruzing the website I noticed the staff photo. That picture was taken at one of the summer camps when it was at least 100 degrees in the shade. NOTICE... Baker (aka Bako) and Fuss are not sweating. Now their rebuttal is going to be, "they aren't as fat as we are." However, Crowley is also sweaty, so now you'll have to play the old card. Crowley began his tenure at Cattle Camp as "one of the pups." I believe with the exception on Milliron and Jerry; Crowley is the next oldest instructor. Congratulations Greg you can now start working on getting a big belly so you can fit in with the older guys.

McCurtain FFA (where I am the ag teacher) is tearing up the show road. I'm looking forward to an off week-end, after 4 straight road trips I'm behind at the house.

Congratulations
- to Faith Hampton in Gilmer TX. She has been doing very well, racking up a few champion honors with her Angus heifer.

- Tray Blaylock and Troy Bowden of McCurtain have also been winning alot of shows with their steers.

- Ty Patterson (who's picture you may have noticed on the side of the Oster clipper box) has also won a couple of Res Grands and Breed Champions with his Maine steer from the First Hand Sale.

- HAILEY HENRY HAS WON FOUR STRAIGHT SHOWMANSHIP TITLES.

I'm clipping calves for people other than my FFA on the Weekend of the Feb 9-10 and Feb 16-17. There are still A FEW slots available. Last year, in the two weeks leading up to OYE, I clipped 52 calves. I am trying hard not to duplicate that number this year.

Rough those cattle out early. Get the long hair off and start letting the new grow. This will help in working the hair, managing the hair and making the calf easier to get a really good clip job on befor your big show.

The weather in Eastern Oklahoma has been good for growing hair this winter. I know its been even colder out west. It's not a bad idea to go ahead and slick those necks. Start about half-way between the ears and the neck/shoulder junction and peel it down just like you would slick clip the head. This will make blending easier and it will give you a two to three week pop on that neck hair befor your county and a month of new fresh growth going into the Oklahoma Youth Expo.

Good Luck and let us know how you do. We will put you on the website.

Jason

Jerry's First Blog

When you read this, you will be reading history in the making. This is my first blog. In fact, I do not even know what a blog is. If the letters B-L-O-G are supposed to stand for something, I do not know what that is either. And I don't know where you put it either. But I do know, Veda (Jori's mom) told me to write something for you guys to put on the blog or to blog or whatever. So, being smart like I am, I did. Because like at your house, "If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy".

Now to be more serious, I am sure you noticed in the above paragraph lots of things I didn't know and some things I can't do. But you are reading this blog so it happened.

Moral to this story. Don't let what you can't do keep you from doing what you can do!. It is much easier to see all of the difficulties. And it is good to realize and understand our weaknesses. But I guarantee you, YOU HAVE LOTS OF STRENGTHS, LOTS OF POSITIVES and LOTS of GOOD things about you because God does not make junk.

Stock show time is here. The Texans are swamped with Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, and Houston. In Oklahoma, local, then county shows intermingled jackpot lead to Oklahoma City in early March.

Yep, we fit right in there. Jori showed at Eufaula last weekend and our local this week-end. Also, in that time span she will play a couple of jr. high basketball games a week and couple of high school games. Does that sound like the schedule of some of you?

We went to Denver last week ane saw our friend and partner Joe Ogle be awarded Seedstock Breeder of the Year award by the Maine Anjou Association. The next day Kelsey Butler went with Veda , Jori and me skiing. Well, Kelsey, Jori, and I skiid.

Jason and I have a really nice set of calves on the ground. They look awfully good. So, if you are already looking for next years calves, we have a tremendous set of Maines, and Jason has Shorthorns, Chi's and Simmentals too.

Remember, success begins at home. Your showmanship practice and hair work are evident when you get to the show.

Give all you have, all of the time and you will always have the right to be proud. And I will be proud of you.

Being a winner is a choice. Choose to be a winner!
